We’re just a few days out from another busy summer weekend in Chicago.
Whether you’re heading to Wicker Park Fest, Taste of Lincoln Ave, or another event, you’ll likely need the Chicago Transit Authority’s (CTA) help getting there!
This weekend, however, transit service in Chicago could be a bit slower than normal. The CTA plans to reroute various elevated train lines and close several stations amid ongoing construction in the Loop.
Here’s everything to know about the service change and how to prepare.
Several Loop CTA stations to close this weekend, trains rerouted
The CTA will close three stations in the Loop from July 25–27 in order to conduct operations related to the ongoing State/Lake station redesign.
The following stations will close at 2 a.m. Saturday and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday:
- Washington/Wabash
- Adams/Wabash
- Clark/Lake (elevated portion)
During the closure, the Orange, Green, and Brown line trains will be rerouted to the west side of the Loop via the Washington/Wells, Quincy, LaSalle/Van Buren, and Harold Washington Library stops.
Pink Line service will conclude at Clinton; riders who need to pass through the Loop can do so by transferring to a Green Line train toward Cottage Grove or Ashland/63rd.
Blue Line subway service at the Clark/Lake stop will continue as normal, and all additional Blue Line service in the Loop will continue as normal.
Red Line service will not be impacted by the closures and service changes.
Staying prepared
Those traveling along the CTA, particularly to and from the Loop, should prepare for delays and added wait times this weekend.
So if you’re heading to a planned function, be sure to allow yourself extra commute time.
