Green and Pink Line riders face two more days of service changes as Lake Street Bridge work runs behind schedule. Direct service from the West Side into the Loop is now expected to resume at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, instead of Monday morning, Oct. 26. Shuttle buses and Blue Line connections remain available for downtown trips.
The Chicago Department of Transportation announced the extension Sunday, Oct. 25, citing complicated connections between existing and new bridge sections and unexpected alignment issues. Crews need additional time to complete structural, electrical, and mechanical alignments.
Green Line: Two sections, connected by a free shuttle
Green Line trains are running in two separate sections, with no train service between Clinton and Clark/Lake:
- West Side: Trains make all stops between Harlem/Lake and Clinton. A free shuttle bus connects Clinton and Clark/Lake.
- South Side: Trains operate between Ashland/63rd or Cottage Grove and the Loop, serving all Loop stations in the same direction and using the same platforms as the Orange Line. Riders continuing west can take the free shuttle from Clark/Lake to Clinton.

Pink Line: Transfer to the Blue Line for downtown
Pink Line trains are not serving the elevated Loop. Instead, they make all stops between 54th/Cermak and Polk before continuing to the Blue Line’s Racine station. There, riders can make a free, same-platform transfer to a Blue Line train for downtown service.
The reroute also means Pink Line trains are not serving Ashland, Morgan or Clinton. Riders traveling to those stations or the West Loop can use the No. 9 or X9 Ashland buses near Polk or Racine, or other north–south bus routes.
The separate Loop shutdown has ended
The weekend shutdown for track and interlocking maintenance at Tower 18 has ended. Brown, Orange and Purple Line trains resumed normal Loop service at 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26. That work is separate from the ongoing Lake Street Bridge disruption.
Plan your commute
The Green and Pink Line service changes remain in place throughout Tuesday and into early Wednesday. Normal service is expected to resume at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28.
