The Chicago Transit Authority is shoring up its commitment to the South Side with the launch of a new service system.
“The Frequent Network,” will introduce bus service of 10 minutes or less along 20 key routes beginning on March 23, according to a release.
The expanded service will occur between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends. The CTA has announced eight bus routes in the initial launch of the program:
- J14 Jeffery Jump
- #34 South Michigan
- #47 47th Street
- #54 Cicero
- #60 Blue Island/26th
- #63 63rd Street
- #79 79th Street
- #95 95th Street
The CTA expects to see a more than 25% increase in service along several of these routes.
Riders can expect more full-length trips and fewer buses turning back before reaching the terminal, according to the CTA.
The additional 12 routes will rollout in phases throughout 2025. The CTA also aims to expand the program to increase service along the “L” system.
“A reliable and equitable public transit system is key to building strong communities, and we are committed to increasing Chicagoans’ access to the CTA so they can get to wherever they need to go,” said Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson in a statement.
“We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Frequent Network and fulfill the promise of increasing CTA bus service, especially for those who need it most.”
