If you’re an art history buff living in Chicago, there’s a good chance you’ve explored every inch of the European wing at the Art Institute.
But if you’re ready for something new, we’ve got the perfect excuse for a quick road trip—just two hours north, in our sister city of Milwaukee.
On Friday, May 2, the Milwaukee Art Museum will debut The Brilliance of the Spanish World: El Greco, Velázquez, Zurbarán.
Billed as the “most significant collection of Hispanic art outside of Spain,” the exhibit will showcase a sweeping selection of masterpieces from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
Works by legendary 16th- and 17th-century painters—including El Greco, Diego Velázquez, and Francisco de Zurbarán—will take center stage, offering a rare glimpse into the intricacies of Spanish art history.
From evocative biblical scenes to powerful portraits of Spanish nobility, the breadth of work promises to captivate both seasoned art aficionados and casual museum-goers alike.
The Brilliance of the Spanish World will run through July 27. Entry is included with general museum admission, which starts at just $27 for adults.
