If you’ve dined out in the North Shore, you might already know about the latest restaurant opening in the Chicago dining scene. Another Ballyhoo Hospitality spot, Sophia Steak, promises to turn heads among Chicagoans as the newest steakhouse in the Gold Coast.
Sophia Steak will take the place of the now-closed Gemini Grill, which shut its doors last summer—situated below Petit Pomeroy, the new restaurant wants to put a fresh perspective on the traditional steakhouse experience.
The restaurant offers a polished yet approachable atmosphere, featuring premium steaks, seafood, and shareable plates. This concept was developed in collaboration with legendary restaurateur Glenn Keefer, known for his iconic contributions to the Chicago steakhouse scene.
Sophia Steak is the only steakhouse in Chicago named after a woman, and to embrace this theme, the restaurant features a chic yet comfortable aesthetic. The design blends bold florals, soft lighting, a statement chandelier, and refined textures, creating an elegant, inviting, sophisticated, and playful environment.
Jon Farrer Farrer, President of Ballyhoo, said:
A steakhouse can transform ordinary moments into memories with kindness and warmth. Sophia will present a signature service that is as important as its signature steaks.
What’s on Sophia Steak’s menu?
The menu features signature dishes such as the NY Strip, Crispy Lobster & Shishitos, Meatballs Pomodoro, and the Grilled Forza Burger.
To provide variety, lighter, vegetable-forward options like the Super Green Vegetable Salad—which includes kale, avocado, broccoli, asparagus, pepperoncini, olives, pistachios, lemon vinaigrette, and parmesan—are also available. Nightly specials showcase Sophia’s favorites: Angry Lobster Spaghetti on Tuesdays, 16oz Prime Rib on Saturdays and the beloved Fried Chicken on Sundays.
The cocktail menu features a range of drinks, each enhanced with house-made infusions and syrups that elevate the flavors and add unique twists. Signature cocktails include a spicy margarita with an infused habanero tincture for a bold kick and a refreshing strawberry cucumber drink crafted with smooth vodka for a light, fruity contrast. Additionally, the wine list features 19 wines by the glass, allowing guests to explore a variety of varietals that pair perfectly with the rich, flavorful menu.
