Shedd Aquarium-goers will now have a new immersive space to explore the natural world during their next visit.
Chicago’s largest aquarium has debuted the Nature Exploration Garden, an expansive green space offering new opportunities for education and wildlife engagement.

Shedd’s new Nature Exploration Garden offers guests a host of interactive avenues for uncovering the wonder of the outdoors.
The garden boasts more than 70 varieties of native plants, four larger-than-life wildlife sculptures, educational signage, and kid-friendly play elements.
Visitors will have the opportunity to observe pollinator species, explore the grounds through spotting scopes, and learn about native plant cultivation.
“Our goal is to connect guests with local animals, plants and ecosystems before they even step a foot inside,” said Shedd Aquarium representative Kristen Neria.
“And the unique aspect—setting this one apart from the other green spaces around our building—was ideating on the fun immersive, interactive elements that invite discovery through play and inspire a deeper appreciation for nature.”
