PAWS Chicago is making exciting strides in the Northwest suburbs with a significant expansion.
This past Sunday afternoon, the animal shelter held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Rescue Ranch in Hawthorn Woods, Illinois. The ranch, which previously functioned as an equestrian center, will span 20 acres and be transformed into a campus dedicated to the rescue, adoption, enrichment, and education of homeless pets.
The PAWS Chicago Rescue Ranch will be the main location, offering a calm, natural environment where cats and dogs can relax and decompress from the stresses of shelter life as they await their new families.
Inside the new suburban PAWS Chicago Rescue Ranch:
- A new Canine Pavilion featuring suites for up to 80 dogs and puppies, and a Cat Center capable of caring for up to 80 cats and kittens at a time.
- A high-impact Surgery Center equipped to perform hundreds of spay/neuter procedures each week
- Purpose-built spaces for volunteers, training, and community engagement
- Chicago’s first Humane Education Center, dedicated to teaching compassion, empathy, and the sentience of animals
- Training programs through the PAWS Animal Welfare Institute
The Rescue Ranch is expected to open in about a year.
