We all crave an exceptional dining experience—however, between TikToks and blogs, the internet is saturated with “best places to eat.” And while we love to check out all these various spots, there’s nothing like dining at places revered and discussed by the experts, especially the New York Times. The reporters and editors at NYT spent the last 12 months scouting restaurants nationwide for their annual best restaurant list.
According to the report, they sampled a wide variety of dishes, ranging from locally sourced meals served from a trailer in a rural Virginia field to a sophisticated seasonal tasting menu in the heart of San Francisco. Despite the abundance of renowned restaurants in the United States, they managed to narrow down their 50 favorite spots for 2024, and Asador Bastian made the list.
Why Asador Bastian is the best restaurant
We’ve already named Asador Bastian the best steakhouse in Chicago, and the NYT agrees. The Chicago chophouse, which has Basque influences from acclaimed Chef Doug Psaltis, is known for taking a culinary journey.
Brett Anderson said:
It is no small thing to call this chophouse’s steak the best in Chicago. But it’s hard to argue with the evidence, be it a bone-in rib-eye of Galician beef, rimmed with yellow fat, or a cut of dry-aged Holstein that all but instructs you to order an old Rioja Gran Reserva (there are some good ones). Now consider that those steaks have to fight for supremacy with seafood from the plancha and even a simple tortilla, albeit crowned with a ribbon of nutty jamón.
Located in River North at the historic “Flair House” townhouse, the divine dining experience comes from Asador Bastian having the most pristine ingredients: a tender, seasoned steak. Whether you’re heading there for small bites in the Bar Room or a more intimate experience in their Dining Room, it’s one of the best chophouses in America.
