The U.S. has long lagged behind Europe in national rail connectivity, but all that is about to change! A new passenger rail project, Lunatrain, aims to establish a network of sleeper trains connecting Chicago to some of the nation’s largest cities.
According to the company, Lunatrain will focus on nonstop service, catering to the growing number of travelers seeking alternatives to short-haul flights.
Current plans for Lunatrain include connectivity to major cities in the Northeast, Midwest, and South Eastern US.
Chicago travelers will be able to catch direct trains to Minneapolis, Denver, Philadelphia, Nashville, and Dallas.
Various transfers will allow Chicagoans to reach additional cities by train including Miami, Montreal, New Orleans, and more.
As for accommodations, travelers can expect a state-of-the-art sleeper cabin experience.
Renderings show comfortably designed cabins featuring cozy bunks, power outlets, and breathtaking window views. Additional onboard amenities will enhance the journey, making the trip feel like a getaway in itself.
An exact timeline for Lunatrain’s launch is in the development. A demonstration is planned for 2026, with full-scale development to follow.
