Illinois’ population grew significantly in 2024 after several years of decline, according to data recently released by the US Census Bureau.
The data found that the Midwest experienced an overall population gain of 410,000 people (0.6%) in 2024, with Illinois representing some of the largest growth.
Illinois saw a total population growth of 67,899 resident between July 1, 2023 and July 1, 2024, according to the Census Bureau.
The data marks a sharp turn from Illinois’ population growth stats between 2020 and 2022, when thew population decreased year over year, according to census data.
In 2023, the population began to rebound, with an increase of 20,000 residents. This year’s growth more than triples that number, driven largely by international migration.
