Since 1963, the castle has hosted a yearly summer camp, mission groups, and various volunteer projects. The castle also serves as a venue for numerous other events like weddings, reunions, banquets, spiritual retreats, and more.
Bettendorf Castle
Nestled in the quaint suburb of Fox River Grove, Bettendorf Castle stands as a charming anomaly amidst Chicago’s suburban landscape.
Constructed over a 36 year period beginning in 1931, the castle now offers tours and special events throughout the year. There’s tons to explore, including a water-filled moat, a working drawbridge, a wishing well, and even a watch tower.

Ravenstone Castle
Step back in time to the 16th century at Ravenstone Castle in Harvard Illinois, just two hours northwest of Chicago.
While its design calls back to the centuries of old, Ravenstone Castle was actually built in 2001. The castle functions as a bed and breakfast featuring themed rooms and a European-style breakfast feast.
The castle also offers tours and a yearly schedule of events.
Altgeld Hall
Located on the Northern Illinois University Campus in DeKalb Illinois is Altgeld Hall. To those unfamiliar, it looks like a castle straight from a fairy tale.
You can explore the castle yourself with a trip to Northern Illinois University Art Museum, located inside the hall. The museum’s galleries feature and exciting selection of rotating exhibitions and permanent collections.
Dunham Castle
