The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is expanding service this spring, promising faster, more frequent train service across several key lines.
The CTA has launched its new spring schedule, adding more trains and reducing wait times. The CTA spring schedule will expand service especially on weekends and during peak commuter hours, according to a release.
The service boost coincides with the third phase of the Kennedy Expressway Reconstruction project, which resumes March 18 and is expected to cause major traffic delays for drivers heading to O’Hare International Airport.
To ease congestion, the CTA will increase Blue Line service, offering a smoother ride to the airport.
What’s changing:
- Blue Line (O’Hare Branch) – Two extra trips on weekdays, six on Saturdays, and five on Sundays.
- Blue Line (Forest Park Branch) – 30 extra trips on weekdays, 17 on Saturdays, and two on Sundays.
- Yellow Line – Early morning weekday service will better coordinate with the Red Line for smoother transfers.
“Over the last three years, CTA has added service to the Blue Line to improve its reliability, and we are excited to add even more service in 2025,” said Acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen in a statement.
“This investment makes the Blue Line an even better transportation alternative for those affected by the reconstruction of the Kennedy Expressway. We are eager to welcome new riders to our system and support existing riders with more frequent service.”
