Chicago’s airports are gearing up for a record-breaking summer of travel, with more flights and destinations than ever before.
Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Department of Aviation announced Monday that summer 2025 is expected to be the busiest travel season in the history of both O’Hare and Midway airports. Here’s everything to know!
How many flights will depart from Chicago this summer?
From June through August, airlines flying out of Chicago will schedule more than 17.8 million seats on departing flights—a 7% increase from 2024 and a 4% increase from 2019, according to a statement.
Last month, American Airlines revealed plans to expand its service in Chicago after cutting back during the pandemic. In 2025, the airline will offer 25% more seats and 22% more departures than the previous year.
What new destinations will Chicago flights reach in 2025?
O’Hare and Midway will connect Chicago to more than 260 global destinations in 2025, up from 250 in 2024.
Travelers can explore some of the world’s most stunning destinations, with new and expanded routes to Helsinki, Istanbul, Hong Kong, Key West, and dozens more.
