The new jerseys are a dark navy and feature a ‘‘respect our neighborhood’ saying on the bottom right. There’s also a Chicago municipal patch seen on the jersey’s left sleeve to symbolize where branches of the Chicago River meet.
Last season, the Cubs wore their signature “Wrigleyville” jerseys and are once again wearing a similar design on the field, highlighting the team stadium’s beloved neighborhood. This year, they’re also paying tribute to some of Chicago’s iconic 77 neighborhoods, showcasing neighborhoods like McKinley Park, Uptown, and West Side’s Humboldt Park for example.
The new tradition will highlight not just Wrigleyville but an expanded list of Chicago’s famous city areas! With these jerseys, the Cubs are also highlighting 9 local community organizations like Young Chicago Authors, Test Positive Aware Network, SkyART, Inter-American Magnet School, Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN), YWCA Metropolitan Chicago, Healthy Hot Free Meals, New Life Centers of Chicagoland, and UCAN Chicago.
The next home game will take place on June 27 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
