The Emmy and James Beard Award-winning cooking competition Top Chef is back for its 22nd season, featuring 15 contestants who have traveled to Canada to compete for impressive prizes, including a grand prize of $250,000 and the esteemed title of Top Chef.
Among this talented group of contestants are three chefs from Chicago who own and work at some of the most prestigious restaurants in the city. Introducing chefs Zubair Mohajir, César Murillo, and Bailey Sullivan—get ready to watch them showcase their culinary skills when the season premieres on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Who are the Chicago chefs competing on Top Chef?
Zubair Mohajir recently opened a restaurant called Mirra, which creatively fuses Mexican and Indian flavors. Originally from India, he grew up in Qatar and currently oversees the culinary program of Lilac Tiger, Mirra, Coach House, and Wazwan in Chicago.
César Murillo serves as the executive chef at North Pond, a restaurant in Lincoln Park. A Mexican immigrant, he moved from Texas and honed his skills working for Rick Bayless at Frontera Grill. He has also worked at notable establishments such as Grace and Sepia.
Bailey Sullivan is the chef de cuisine at Monteverde. A native of suburban La Grange, Bailey previously worked at the Michelin-starred restaurant Acadia. She has also gained experience under another Top Chef alum, Beverly Kim, at Parachute.
