A long-lost staple of Cajun cooking in Chicago is making a comeback after closing its doors more than a decade ago.
Blue Bayou Bar & Grill, a once-popular destination for New Orleans-inspired cuisine, is reopening at its original location, at 3734 N. Southport Ave., with a weekend-long grand opening celebration beginning Friday.
Originally shuttered in 2011, the restaurant is being revived with the help of Last Call Tavern Group, known for its local establishments like Butcher’s Tap and The Reveler.
The group promises to honor Blue Bayou’s Southern roots while adding modern flair to its menu and ambiance.
The updated menu features classic Southern dishes like Shrimp and Catfish Po’ Boys, Jambalaya, and Chicken & Waffles.
At the bar, guests can enjoy Bourbon Street favorites like a Frozen Hurricane or a Pineapple Daiquiri.
The revamped Blue Bayou will feature a lively atmosphere, with 30 TVs for game day viewing, and space for private events. Special programming like boozy brunches and live music nights are also on the books.
With close proximity to Wrigley Field, the Music Box Theater, Metro, and other attractions, Blue Bayou is poised to satisfy the masses and reclaim its historic position as a beloved hang along the Southport corridor.
