Labor Day Weekend in Chicago is just about to get underway, but if you were planning on hitting the lakefront early you’ll want to reconsider.
Beach Hazard Statement in effect through Friday afternoon
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issues a Beach Hazard Statement effective for all of Cook County until 4 p.m. Friday.
Waves up to 8ft tall are possible at all Chicago-area beaches, along with dangerous currents. Swimming conditions will be life threatening, particularly for inexperienced swimmers.
The NWS advises all beachgoers to stay out of the water, and avoid walking onto jetties, piers, or other waterfront structures.
