Move over, Old Style—there’s a new beer in town!
America’s oldest brewery, Yuengling is expanding its Midwestern footprint, bringing its classic beer to bars across Chicago for the first time in its nearly 200-year history.
A beer to unite Chicago
For the average Chicagoan, the name Yuengling (pronounced “ying-ling”) might not ring a bell, but the Pottsville, Pennsylvania-based brewery has long been a favorite among beer lovers from Philly to New England.
Yuengling has earned a near-mythical reputation among beer enthusiasts, uniting seemingly opposing classes of drinkers.
The brew is a favorite of both craft beer snobs, and those who don’t care what beer they drink as long as its cheap.
As one social media user put it, Yuengling represents a “magical middle ground”—a beer that all drinkers can get behind.
Yuengling’s Chicago rollout
Yuengling’s portfolio of beers is available now on tap at several Chicago bars, including the Village Tap Bar & Grill in Roscoe Village.
The bar marked the occasion in a Facebook post: “Enjoy America’s oldest craft brewery at one of Chicago’s oldest craft beer bars.”
Yuengling has additional packaging and distribution planned in the coming weeks, according to a statement from the brewery.
The beer will become a fixture at additional bars as the rollout continues, and will soon be available by the case at local liquor stores.
A welcome addition for Chicagoans and transplants alike
“For years we have seen an overwhelming desire for our portfolio from our most loyal fans in Illinois that have been eagerly awaiting the brand’s arrival,” said a Yuengling spokesperson in a statement.
“We are incredibly proud to announce our expansion into a great beer market such as Illinois in the new year…”
