The WNBA made headlines this past weekend in Chicago, not just because the league’s biggest athletes were seen both on and off the court, but also because the game itself broke significant records. Surprisingly, there was not a single hometown Sky player in the All-Star Game.
WNBA All-Star Game shatters attendance records in Chicago
On Saturday night at the United Center, 19,783 fans attended the WNBA All-Star Game, setting a new attendance record for the event. This surpassed the previous record of 19,487 fans set in 2007.
Notably, this year’s WNBA All-Star Game attendance exceeded that of the NBA’s All-Star Game, which attracted 15,973 fans to the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles in February. While the Intuit Dome has a basketball capacity of around 18,000 and the United Center can hold nearly 21,000, this marks the first time in history that the WNBA has outdrawn the NBA at an All-Star Game.
