Ever dreamed of designing a mural for all of Chicago to see? Now’s your chance!
The Community Investment Corporation (CIC), a local affordable housing lender, is hosting an open call for artists to design a mural for the Wintrust Mural Building—one of the city’s most visible public canvases along the Kennedy Expressway.
The CIC mural contest aims to celebrate the organization’s mission of preserving affordable housing in Chicago, with entries highlighting the city’s diverse neighborhoods and cultural identity.
CIC will select five finalists to submit detailed mural proposals, awarding each a $1,000 honorarium. One artist will ultimately be chosen to design a three-panel mural and receive $9,000 to cover project expenses.
“We hope that the mural design embodies the vibrancy of Chicago neighborhoods, the crucial role that everyday multifamily apartment buildings play in these neighborhoods, and the positive multiplier effect that improving properties and investing in neighborhoods has in our city,” reads the CIC website.
The CIC mural contest is open to all creatives ages 18 and older, including those new to public art.
Submissions are open until Thursday, April 3, at 11:59 p.m.
