The Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) just acquired one of the world’s most expensive private collections of Roman sculptures—but they’re only here only for a limited time.
Titled Myth and Marble: Ancient Roman Sculpture from the Torlonia Collection, the exhibition features a curated selection of 58 rarely-seen ancient Roman sculptures from the Torlonia Collection.
The Torlonia Collection is arguably among the most important collections of its kind, according to the AIC, comprising over 622 pieces.
Curated portions of the collection have previously exhibited throughout Europe. Myth and Marble marks the collection’s first exhibition in the United States.
“Myth and Marble debuts these masterpieces to a North American audience,” reads the AIC site. “…presenting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience these exceptional ancient sculptures and explore the fascinating stories they reveal about both their ancient pasts and their modern afterlives.”
Myth and Marble is on display now through June 29 in galleries 150, 182–184, and 188–189 at the AIC. Purchase tickets and learn more here.
