The Chicago White Sox’s home base Guaranteed Rate Field is no more—the stadium will simply be known as “Rate Field” next season.
The team announced the news in a video posted to Twitter/X Tuesday, the decision following a rebrand of the team’s sponsor Guaranteed Rate Mortgages.
In July, Guaranteed Rate announced its plan to rebrand the entire company to just “Rate,” calling the change a “concise, modern identity” in a statement.
For some fans, the name change is all a big nothing, given that the stadium’s name has changed multiple times over the past several decades.
For years, the White Sox Stadium was known as “Comiskey Park,” before adopting the name “U.S. Cellular Field,” in 2003, according to the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority.
It wasn’t until November of 2016 that the ballpark became “Guaranteed Rate Field,” meaning its held the name for less than a decade.
Through all the various name changes, many long-time Sox fans continue to call the stadium Comiskey Park, or simply Sox Park.
As for the White Sox, the new name is the least of their concerns, after suffering a record-breaking 121 losses during the 2024 MLB season according to ESPN.
Fans took to Twitter/X to joke about the name change. “Because let’s be honest, we’re in no position to guarantee anything,” wrote one user.
“Next year it’ll be called Field,” wrote another user, echoing a sentiment shared across social media that the new name is somehow even worse than before.
For now, we’ll hope that the dawn of “Rate Field” can usher in a new era for the Sox, one marked by historic wins instead of losses.
