Did somebody say free beer?
Chicago’s bars and restaurants are attempting to encourage the general public to show more enthusiasm and cooperation with the national Covid-19 vaccine distribution. So much so that one Northside neighborhood bar is now offering $10,000 worth of free craft beer to those customers who come with proof that they’ve been vaccinated.
Village Tap in Roscoe Village has a reputation for it’s accomplished craft beer knowledge and the versatile variety of beers on offer at the beloved neighborhood bar. A browse through the Village Bar Instagram tells you all you need to know about their dedication to cherry-picking the finest beers. As of January 13, they’re giving away 1,000 gift cards in $10 increments to customers with proof of vaccination.
According to the Village Tap owner, Jeff Hoffman, this is not just a way to encourage inoculation but also a way to show gratitude to the health care workers who currently make up the vast majority of vaccinated customers.
Jeff’s objective, shared with many bar and restaurant owners across Chicago, is to boost a return to normality. Proof of vaccination is looking like the likeliest way to safely go about our social lives in the near future. But it’s not just Chicago’s hospitality industry moving in this direction, airlines, sporting events, performance venues and more are all looking towards this as a way forward.
A phone application displaying that displays personal vaccination certificates would be the modern take on vaccination cards and documents used in past epidemics and an app has been mooted for several months now.
“The only way out of the situation we are in is for people to be vaccinated so we can get back to normal. It’s just our way of trying to promote it. It’s a little thank you — not a ton of money, but it’s what we can do right now,” said Hoffman.
