Having taken place in July for more than 40 years, one of Chicago’s most beloved annual events, Taste of Chicago, last year moved dates to September due to a packed Grant Park schedule and Chicago hosting the NASCAR Street Race.
Having initially sought a new location event organizers decided on a date change due to public pushback and this year they’ve opted for the same solution. In addition to the city’s second NASCAR race taking place in early July, Grant Park is booked out for big events for more than 70 days this summer making it impossible to find space for Taste of Chicago.
This year the long-running food and music extravaganza will once again take place two months later than usual from Friday, September 6, through Sunday, September 8.
First established in 1980, the free summertime tradition brings together an array of eateries all showcasing the city’s culinary excellence and diversity while performances and activities provide entertainment all weekend.
Though there hasn’t yet been any information about participating restaurants or performers, last year Taste of Chicago featured over 50 food vendors and food trucks as well as “a robust slate of world-class musical performances” and this year is expected to be much the same.
According to the City of Chicago’s website, there will be three additional neighborhood events taking place throughout summer though right now dates and locations are unconfirmed.
