
Severe storms are set to batter Chicago Friday night, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain, and the threat of tornadoes to the region.
The Chicago region is under a level 3 severe weather threat, according to the National Weather Service, with thunderstorms expected later tonight. The area is also under a Wind Advisory, effective until 4 a.m. Saturday.
Tonight’s storms will produce dangerously strong winds, and could even spawn tornadoes in some areas.
Conditions will peak between 9 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, according to the NWS, and last up to an hour in any given location.
The storms will dissipate by Saturday morning, but strong winds will continue throughout the day, with gusts of up to 55 mph possible according to the NWS.
The NWS advises residents to stay aware and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including a way to wake up in case of emergency.
