Despite having said goodbye to winter last month, Chicago’s mercurial weather is not letting us enjoy the blooms and brightness of spring just yet.
This week will somewhat hinder any early April plans in Chicago with rain and even some snow expected throughout the week.
Rain and snow are likely tonight, all of tomorrow, and even further into the week as winter gives us the last taste (hopefully) of its merciless might before sunshine and clearer skies return this weekend just in time for a significant total solar eclipse that is dubbed “the Great North American Solar Eclipse”.
According to the National Weather Service, “a strong storm system” will bring “strong thunderstorms, strong non-thunderstorm winds, and slushy snow” over the next couple of days.
By Friday skies should begin to clear and sunshine will return with the weather then improving over the weekend.
On Monday, April 8th, 2024, “the Great North American Solar Eclipse” will work its way up from Mexico through the United States and into Canada.
The eclipse will reportedly be one of the most significant in the next 100 years due to its expected exceptional length and visibility.
According to NASA, Illinois will best experience the total solar eclipse at around 2 p.m. CDT with totality beginning at 1:59 p.m., peaking at 2:01 p.m., and totality ending at 2:03 p.m.
