For any skating novices in the Chicago area, the Windy City Rollers are hosting a skating clinic. The group is known as the premiere roller derby league in the area. Now, they’re giving you a chance to learn how to skate from some of the best in the business.
What to expect at the clinic:
Participants can learn basic skating skills, new fitness techniques, and ways to stop on wheels. The classes, which cost $25 per person, will be held at the Willye B. White Park (1610 W. Howard St.) from 10 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturday, Aug. 27th.
No previous skating experience is necessary at the clinic, and don’t worry about bringing skates– there will also be equipment available to borrow thanks to Triple 8 NYC, and 187 Killer Pads. Find updates on the Windy City Rollers official Facebook page.
Who are the Windy City Rollers?
The nonprofit roller derby team has been around since 2006, competing in and around the Chicago area in multi-team tournaments. The group strives to foster a network filled with talented individuals and create a space for community outreach and athletic training. As for where you can see the Windy City Rollers in action, they will be playing a home game at the Max McCook Athletic Center in La Grange, on August 20th.
PS: If you want to get decked out before the class, the popular roller derby team does sell a number of fun logo adorned merch.
