The ‘World’s Largest’ Corn Maze At Richardson Farm Outside Chicago Has Opened To The Public

The 28-acre-large corn maze features a piece of all 4 seasons: tulips, sunflowers, Christmas trees, and an adventure farm.

It might still technically be summer but all that fall fun is beginning to announce itself. Pumpkin patches, apple orchards, and corn mazes — some of our favorite autumnal activities — are emerging and the Midwest has some of the best in the country.

When it comes to corn mazes, however, we have some of the best in the world and Richardson Farm in Spring Grove, Illinois, is a testament to that.

Holding that title of the world’s largest corn maze, the farm’s 28-acre corn maze opened to the public on Saturday, September 11, and will run through November 7, 2021!

Richardson Farm’s sunflower field

Featuring 9-10 miles of trails, Richardson Farm’s corn maze is in fact composed of 4 smaller mini mazes weaved together by the multiple meandering walking trails. Within you’ll find a piece of all 4 seasons: tulips, sunflowers, Christmas trees, and an adventure farm.

If you forgot your breadcrumbs at home, worry not. The corn maze has multiple checkpoints in addition to three 8-foot-high wooden bridges built-in for you to pop your head up over the hedge and coordinate your path as you see fit. If the brief bird’s eye view still doesn’t get you to where you need to go, the maze has perimeter paths allowing for easy exit.

Donuts and hot chocolate will be on hand near the exits for you to boost strength and stamina as you attempt to calculate the myriad of pathways.

Exploring the maze itself is a pleasant experience, but at Richardson Farm, you can also entertain five separate games within the maze that vary in length and difficulty including the farm scene investigation game, quiz questions, and finding all 24 hidden checkpoints.

Richardson Farm’s 2020 theme

Every year, Richardson Farm features a fresh theme for their giant corn maze. Last year it was celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and this year it is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Richardson Farm’s Adventure Farm.

“Join us on the farm for a corn-fusing labyrinth celebrating all of the farm fun, exciting pig races, zipline rides, train whistles, and more here at Richardson Farm!” the farm wrote on their website.

Richardson Farm’s zipline experience

In addition to their maze, Richardson Farm has a number of other attractions that include a 50-foot observation tower, a huge pumpkin patch, a community campfire, a zip line, zorbing — which is strapping into an inflatable 11-foot ball and bouncing down a hillside, a petting zoo, a giant slide, and much more!
