There’s a new way to grab a famous rainbow cone in Chicago– at the Lincoln Park Zoo.
The Original Rainbow Cone has a bright pink truck at the famous Lincoln Park Zoo, making it one of the only places on the North Side where you can buy the company’s famous ice cream. The pink polka-dotted truck fits right in with the cheery setting and currently sells a limited selection of the Original Rainbow Cone’s offerings.
The Original Rainbow Cone also has two stores on Western Avenue and Rosevelt Road, and a smaller place at the Navy Pier, but for anyone looking for a sweet treat during a family outing in Lincoln Park, there’s now a beloved polka dot-covered truck stationed a few steps away from your favorite animals.
The family-owned business opened its first store in 1926, and recently, made a deal with the family-friendly zoo to sell ice cream out of a food truck. Located near the Farm in the Zoo exhibit, customers can find the bright food truck at 1911 N. Stockton Drive.
From the original rainbow cone– a five-layer ice cream cone with orange sherbet, pistachio, palmer house, strawberry, and chocolate, to decadent cookies and cream ice cream, or a vegan wild berry sorbet, the delightful dessert options are sure to please everyone in your party.
There are six trucks overall, including the now permanent ones at the Lincoln Park Zoo and the Shedd Aquarium. There’s also a truck tracker on their website for a live update on truck locations.
The Rainbow Cone trucks first popped up during the pandemic, as a way to bring ice cream to customers when restrictions on indoor dining were in place. Now, the trucks are back offering up a fun summer treat and an easy, playful way to bring ice cream to the North Side. PS: The truck is open every day from 10:30 AM to 8 PM.
