The wait is finally over Chicago—after months of anticipation, Pokémon Fossil Museum has finally launched at the Field Museum!
The much-buzzed about exhibition opened its doors on Friday, May 22, and will run now through April 11, 2027.
Here’s a sneak peak at everything in store.
Behind the scenes at Pokémon Fossil Museum

The Field Museum describes Pokémon Fossil Museum as a “one-of-a-kind experience brings together the worlds of Pokémon and paleontology.”
This marks the first-ever U.S. edition of the traveling Japanese special exhibition.
Visitors will engage with a series of interactive exhibits, comparing fossil Pokémon to the real-life dinosaur fossils that inspired them.
“Professor Fossil,” “Excavator Pikachu,” and Field Museum staff will guide guests through the experience as they discover the connections between pop culture and real science.

“The fact that Pokémon is rooted in real science is not something that most of us think about,” said Jaap Hoogstraten, Head of Exhibitions at the Field Museum in a statement last year.
“By forefronting that aspect of the story, we hope that Pokémon Fossil Museum will be a pathway to science for our visitors—especially budding paleontologists.”
The Field Museum expects a large turnout for Pokémon Fossil Museum, and tickets are subject to availability.
