Today is Earth Day, a day that simply aims to support practices that protect the earth and environmental protection. Shopping sustainably with an eye for waste-free or refillable items is such a wonderful way to do this!
Nowadays, there are so many ways to be sustainable, and yet it can feel daunting to find consciously-sourced everyday products. That’s where the local store, Eco & the Flamingo, comes in handy.
The shop is run by co-founders and BFFs Jackie MacCartie and Bethany Barbouti, with a simple mission: to reduce waste in the Chicago community. The main goal of this kitschy all-encompassing shop is to provide sustainable, cruelty-free, and reusable options for the everyday consumer.
The founders specifically keep away from single-use products and avoid container waste, encouraging shoppers to do the same with plenty of refillable products, from bath and body to cleaning products, available. They also put in the work behind the scenes, collaborating with brands to help develop refillable options for products.
With accessible price points and shelves filled with plastic-free, ethically sourced products, Eco & the Flamingo is open to all with plenty of earth-conscious items to peruse. The zero-waste general store also carries everything from dry goods and snacks, to eco-friendly alternatives, and more.
Pick up a number of health and beauty items at the store, or stock up on fabulous all-natural cleaning supplies like refillable laundry detergent, dish soap, and more. With an eye for local art, they also feature plenty of great gifting opportunities, along with local coffee and tea options. Feel free to bring back any old containers for reuse purposes!
Eco & the Flamingo is located in Lincoln Square and is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day of the week.
