You get a diploma! You get a diploma! And YOU get a diploma!
While the class of 2020 might not get the ceremony they expected, they’ll sure get something. Heading the virtual graduation ceremony for the class of 2020 is no other than Oprah Winfrey.
The ceremony, scheduled for next Friday, May 15, will feature an array of familiar faces. Not the least of which Oprah, Miley Cyrus — yes, she will be performing “The Climb”, Lil Nas X, Awkwafina, and Jennifer Garner — ever heard of them?
Beginning at 1 pm CDT, Facebook will share the virtual ceremony via Facebook Watch. The company also invites graduates to share their quarantine ceremony using special features that will be enabled by the platform’s Messenger Rooms.
The virtual ceremony will be shared on Instagram through a set of creative features, including “graduation countdown sticker, celebratory sticker pack, new AR effects, and a custom hashtag page for #Graduation2020,” per the press release.
This isn’t the only ceremony the graduates will have either. The hardwork of America’s students will also be commemorated by former president, Barack Obama, along with wife, author, producer, documentarian, Michelle Obama.
That ceremony will take place at 2pm CDT on June 6, and will also feature commencement addresses from: former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice; Secretary of Defense, Robert M. Gates; Google CEO, Sundar Pichai; and renowned activist, Malala Yousafzai — the youngest Nobel Prize laureate ever.
And because no graduation ceremony is complete without an after party (well, in college, that is), the June 6 commencement addresses will be followed by performances from Lady Gaga, BTS, and more!
