One reason Chicago is a premier tourist destination is its collection of internationally recognized museums. However, this year, a new landmark will be transforming the Chicago skyline.
A look into the Obama Presidential Center
Former President Barack Obama’s $700 million Presidential Center is set to open in the South Side of Chicago in June.
The 19-acre complex, designed by architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, features works by renowned artists such as Jenny Holzer and Theaster Gates. It also includes amenities like a basketball court, playground, and public library, all accessible to the community.

The eight-story granite museum is designed to represent four hands coming together. Inside, visitors will find artifacts and mementos from Obama’s two presidential terms, including a full-scale replica of the Oval Office and First Lady Michelle Obama’s dresses. Additionally, there will be a top-floor Sky Room offering stunning views of Lake Michigan.
The building is adorned with excerpts from Obama’s “You are America” speech, which he delivered in Selma, Alabama, during the 50th anniversary of the Bloody Sunday civil rights march.
