Guests can stand in, under, and around 70 different neon and light-based sculptures!
Another exciting exhibition will join Chicago’s esteemed and eclectic mix this September. The new Neon and Light Museum will open its doors to the public on Thursday, September 9 offering a breathtaking array of immersive light sculptures.
Giving guests the chance to stand in, under, and around 70 different neon and light-based sculptures, the museum’s many interactive displays offer an immersive experience teeming with prismatic photo ops.
From the bright lights of New York’s Times Square to the quaint lights of a streetside diner, neon lights have long radiated a timeless mystique. They’re captivating yet calm, eerie yet nostalgic, and retro yet futuristic. The vintage vibe of neon effortlessly draws people in and now Chicago has a museum filled with that unique and mysterious glow.
The exciting new exhibition will feature work from a variety of talented digital artists, sculptors, and glass benders. Including highlights such as Monika Wulfer’s dynamic “Circle’s Edge” and “Breathe”, a 14-foot-tall shapeshifting sculpture by artist John Bannon that changes with different perspectives. There will also be captivating pieces from British artist Sarah Blood, renowned local artist Jacob Fishman, the fine art duo of Adam Brooks and Mathew Wilson behind Industry of the Ordinary, and many others.
“Neon defined a retro era when the automobile was broadening Americans’ horizons and the highways and boulevards of America’s cities were filled with bright and often flashing illuminated messages: snappy, happy, hopeful, warm and fuzzy come-ons to a better future,” said the Neon and Light Museum director and curator Ken Saunders.
The Neon and Light Museum pop-up will run for eight weeks at 325 West Huron Street in River North from Thursday, September 9 until October 31. Reservations will be required and only 60 people will be permitted entry each hour to ensure the space is safe and comfortable for attendees. The pop-up will be open from 4 pm – 10 pm on Thursdays and Fridays, Saturdays from 11 am – 10 pm on Saturdays, and from 11 am – 6 pm on Sundays.
