Fireworks from Navy Pier are expected to illuminate the Chicago skyline on Saturday, July 4, as part of the nationwide celebrations for America’s 250th anniversary. If you plan to join the tens of thousands heading to the lakefront, here are a few important things to keep in mind.
Make sure to arrive early
Due to the anticipated large number of people coming, traffic is expected on the roadways surrounding Navy Pier throughout the day and evening.
It is strongly encouraged to arrive well in advance of the fireworks to ensure access to the Pier, scout a viewing location, and avoid traffic delays. Please allow ample time for parking, security screening, and entry.
Getting to Navy Pier
Navy Pier recommends using public transportation or rideshare services. The CTA bus routes #29, #65, #66, and #124 provide direct access to Navy Pier from Metra stations, CTA rail lines, and other key transit hubs throughout the city. All rideshare drop-off and pick-up zones are being moved west of Lake Shore Drive
The designated pick-up and drop-off locations for Uber, Lyft, and other rideshare services have been moved west of Lake Shore Drive. Visitors are encouraged to check the updated locations and information in their rideshare apps when making bookings.
Navy Pier has two enclosed on-site parking garages—the West Garage and East Garage—which can accommodate up to 1,500 vehicles. Additionally, there are other parking garages within walking distance of the pier, including Grand Plaza Park, Ogden Plaza Self Park, Millennium Park Garage, and Cityfront Place Parking Garage. Valet parking is available only to guests of the Sable Hotel, and both garages are expected to reach capacity before the fireworks begin.
If Navy Pier reaches capacity and closes to general admission, guests with confirmed reservations or tickets for on-site restaurants, attractions, boat tours, cruises, or the Navy Pier Marina will still have access to the Pier.
