It’s finally September, which means Mexican Heritage Month is just around the corner, along with all the festivities that follow.
Mexican Independence Day is a cherished tradition in Chicago, celebrated with festivals, cultural events, and the popular Mexican Independence Day Parade.
This holiday attracts hundreds of attendees and highlights include the El Grito Chicago Festival, taking place in Grant Park on September 13th and 14th. The festival will feature live music, delicious food, and various cultural activities.
In addition to the main festival, other community-led events in neighborhoods such as Pilsen and West Chicago will also celebrate Mexican culture throughout the weekend.

As for the Mexican Independence Day Parade, it is still scheduled to march through Little Village on Sunday, September 14th.
The Sun-Times reported that the parade will be held with precautions amid a potential deportation campaign this year.
Volunteers stationed along the parade, scheduled for Saturday, will carry radios, cellphones and whistles to quickly report any issues, its organizer.
