A longtime neighborhood staple in Chicago’s Greektown has unexpectedly closed after 20 years in business.
The Chicago Meli Café posted a notice on its door thanking customers for “20 wonderful years” and expressing gratitude to the community that supported the restaurant since it opened.
Over the past two decades, Meli Café has established itself as a must-visit neighborhood spot in Greektown, which is why its abrupt closure comes as a shock.
The menu is filled with farm-to-table dishes crafted with organic meat, fresh-squeezed juices, seasonal produce, and its famous homemade marmalade.
In the heartfelt note, the owners stated, “To our loyal guests, neighbors, friends, and community, thank you for supporting Meli Café for the past 20 years,” the message read. “It has been our honor to serve you, celebrate with you, and be part of so many special moments in Greektown.”
According to Fox 32 Chicago, while the restaurant did not provide a reason for the closure, the note highlighted not just the food but the genuine connections and memories created over shared breakfasts, coffee, and life’s significant milestones.
While the Greektown location has closed, the business indicated it will continue operating at its other Chicago locations, including in River North and Printer’s Row.
