One of our favorite events is happening this weekend—and it’s actually not a festival. Milwaukee Avenue will be completely car-free, transforming the street with sidewalk sales, live music, and more.
“Meet Me On Milwaukee” is officially returning; the event temporarily closes Milwaukee Avenue to cars and buses and opens the street to pedestrians.
Chicago is shutting down Milwaukee Avenue
Alderman Daniel La Spata announced the event on Instagram, stating that this initiative, a collaboration between his office and the Wicker Park-Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, was initially launched last summer to reimagine the often hectic Wicker Park thoroughfare without vehicular traffic.
Meet Me On Milwaukee will take place on the last Sunday of August, September, and October.
- August 30: 10 AM – 6 PM
- September 27: 10 AM – 6 PM
- October 25: 10 AM – 4 PM

Milwaukee Ave from Damen/North to Ashland will be closed, including some side streets:
- N Honore St (SW to train tracks and NE to alley)
- W Evergreen Ave (SW to train tracks)
- N Wolcott Ave (SW to train tracks and NE to W Beach Ave)
- N Wood St (SW to alley)
- N Hermitage Ave (SW to alley)
- N Paulina St (SW to alley and N to alley)
