Lollapalooza 2021 was one of the biggest gatherings in the US since Covid-19 first hit.
On the off-chance you haven’t yet seen a photo, there was a truly enormous turnout for the Lollapalooza 2021 despite the growing concerns over the Delta variant. This year’s version of the beloved music festival that comes to Chicago’s Grant Park every year was one of the largest public gatherings in the United States since the beginning of the pandemic.
The decision to go ahead with the festival has been continuously backed by Mayor Lori Lightfoot and other city officials with the belief that the precautionary measures implemented made it safe to go ahead. All attendees were required to either show proof of vaccination or provide a negative rapid COVID-19 test in order to enter. According to the Chicago Tribune, 90% of attendees showed up with the former, 8% showed the latter, and “Six hundred people were turned away because they didn’t have either.”
Nonetheless, the size of the crowd was shocking considering it has been some time since any of us have seen so many people in one place and it consequently garnered a lot of attention online, to say the least. Amongst the reactions, there were several hilarious comparisons. Some saw quinoa, others saw the Walking Dead, and one person even turned a photo into a game of ‘Where’s Waldo’. Have a scroll through some of these responses to the absurdly large crowd below.
And then, of course, somebody actually made it a game of ‘Where’s Waldo’ and it’s more difficult than you expect.
