The Lincoln Park Zoo just welcomed two new furry friends—a pair of Sichuan Takin brothers!
If you’re scratching your head wondering what exactly a Sichuan Takin is, no fear. We’ve got all the details.
Here’s everything to know about the LP Zoo’s new duo and when you can pay them a visit.
Say hello to Takins Porter and Taiyang

The LP Zoo’s new Sichuan Takins Porter and Taiyang just arrived from the Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend, Indiana, according to a release.
Sichuan Takins are horned mammals related to sheep and goats, native to the Himalayan mountains.
Takins have an ox-like build, a fluffy coat, and can weigh up to 750 pounds. In the wild, the creatures share their stomping grounds with giant pandas.
The goat-like animals have few natural predators due to their size and follow migratory patterns based on food availability.

During the spring, the mammals ascend to the mountain tree line, before migrating down to low-lying valleys during the fall.
Porter and Taiyang are currently settling into their new Chicago home and enjoying some play time.
The LP Zoo is currently constructing a new climbing structure just for the animals, designed to mimic their native environment and encourage natural behaviors.
