As you step into La Casa del Pueblo Taqueria, the aroma of Mexican cuisine envelops you—scents of papas con huevo, hearty menudo, rich queso con rajas, juicy barbacoa, and delicious tamales are nearby.
This cherished family-run establishment has been a cornerstone of the Pilsen community for years; however, it’s preparing to close its doors for good in late summer or early fall.
A legendary family-run taqueria is closing its doors for good
Jorge Arturo Haro Hernandez, the manager and son of one of the restaurant’s founders, shared the bittersweet news with Block Club Chicago.

La Casa del Pueblo Taqueria is conveniently situated next to a supermarket with a similar name that operates under different ownership. According to Block Club Chicago, the decision comes after the inability to reach a lease renewal agreement with the building’s owner, Nicholas J. Lombardi Jr.
Despite this setback, La Casa del Pueblo Taqueria intends to rise again in Berwyn, relocating to a warehouse where Haro Hernandez plans to expand tamale production.
At the new Berwyn location, Hernandez envisions a similar welcoming atmosphere to retain nearly all of the staff from the Pilsen site, ensuring La Casa del Pueblo Taqueria will continue to thrive.
