As summer comes to a close, it’s important to make the most of the remaining festivities—and one thing you don’t want to miss out on is the Illinois State Fair.
Returning today, the Illinois State Fair is a two-weekend event filled with music, food, and a celebration of agriculture across the state. This year’s theme is “Miles of Smiles,” commemorating the 100th anniversary of Route 66.

The fair offers a wide variety of events and activities for all ages, providing families plenty of reasons to make the trip to Springfield this year.
A highlight of the fair is the iconic Butter Cow, which takes center stage, and this year’s companion sculpture features a woman and her dog embarking on a Route 66 adventure aboard a classic scooter in search of ice cream (with a pup cup, of course).

Once again, the Grandstand will host an array of shows, featuring Bailey Zimmerman on Friday, Lainey Wilson on Saturday, and Matchbox Twenty on Sunday. In addition to the Grandstand performances, there will be plenty of music at the beer tents and various stages, including the Grand Central Stage.
How much is the Illinois State Fair?
Today’s opening day admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and free for children ages 12 and younger.
