A lakefront mansion in suburban Winnetka recently sold for a whopping $31.3 million, setting a record for the highest-ever home resale in Illinois history.

A history of Illinois’ most expensive mansion

Named the Windsor House after its original owner, publisher Henry H. Windsor Jr., the 22-room mansion was designed in French Renaissance Revival-style by architect Ernest Mayo in 1928.
Retired investment banker Muneer Satter and wife Kristen Hertel acquired the estate for $9.5 million in 2002, over $16 million adjusted for inflation. The couple listed the property for sale in August 2024 for $35 million.
Pictures from Miller + Miller Architectural Photography show a host of luxury amenities including a private beach, two-door boathouse, infinity pool, and heated motor court.
The mansion represents the largest independent, single-property deal in state history, according to the Tribune.
