Downtown Chicago is packed with theaters of every kind—well, almost. While drama and musical performances dominate the scene, one genre has been noticeably missing: magic. But that’s about to change!
The Hand and The Eye to occupy former Lawry’s space
The city’s largest magic-exclusive venue is slated to open next year inside the historic McCormick Mansion (100 E. Ontario Street) on the Magnificent Mile, according to a release from Levy Restaurants.
The landmark building, formerly home to Lawry’s The Prime Rib, has sat quiet since the restaurant closed in late 2020. The 136-year-old building, constructed in 1893, boasts elaborate antique furnishings and a sweeping grand staircase.
The $50 million theatre will preserve the mansion’s time-honored legacy while introducing guests to a world of magical encounters you won’t find anywhere else in the city.
Intimate performances meet top-notch dining
Occupying a 35,000-square-foot space, The Hand and The Eye will feature multiple performance spaces connected by secret passageways, with intimate and personalized illusionist experiences at every turn.
Guests will enjoy a curated selection of close-up magic tricks, designed to engage the senses and spark wonder.
Levy Restaurants will manage the theatre’s hospitality, adding a restaurant and several bars to the space, seamlessly blending the dining experience with live performance.
Opening timeline
The Hand and The Eye will open in spring 2026, according to the release. Ticket and membership opportunities will be made available through an exclusive pre-release in the coming months.
