The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) is getting a major facelift, thanks to a historic $10 million grant from the Driehaus Foundation.
The grant—the largest in the foundation’s history—will fund upgrades to MSI’s accessibility features, amenities, and public spaces, according to a museum statement.
The renovation plan will refurbish the museum’s portico and restore access to its south entrance through Jackson Park.
Additionally, the museum plans to add an outdoor terrace and café overlooking its lagoon.
The Griffin MSI also plans to enhance ADA features, adding new elevators to increase access to the museum and surrounding public spaces.
Work on the project will begin this year, with a completion date slated for 2027.
In a statement, Griffin MSI CEO Dr. Chevy Humphrey said, “This project represents a pivotal moment for the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry as we honor its historic past while leading the museum forward.”
“The Driehaus Foundation’s generosity allows us to enhance this iconic space while ensuring it is welcoming and accessible for all and continues a legacy of inspiration and engagement for decades of future visitors.”
The Griffin MSI will remain open throughout the construction period, with no limits to public access or parking. Click here to learn additional information and plan your next visit.
