The viral makeup company, which is now available at Sephora and redid its flagship store in NY this past March, is open for business starting today (932 N. Rush Street). The brand is the purveyor of the original Clean Girl aesthetic long before that was actually a thing, first launching in 2014, and sold exclusively online for years.
The beauty company is expanding its brick-and-mortar stores with a brand new Glossier Chicago storefront now open today (Friday, August 14th).
Glossier is officially back in the Windy City for good, with a sparkling permanent store, bringing along millennial pink jumpsuits, delicious balms, and boy brow of course! (For those who don’t know, Boy Brow is an ever-popular waxy pomade that slicks brows into place and if you’re looking for a sweet lip balm go for the ‘Fig’ option!)
The cult beauty brand initially announced its Chicago plans via Instagram, photoshopping its iconic Glossier You Solid Perfume in place of Cloud Gate.
The permanent store opening is certainly exciting for the hoards of makeup-obsessed girlies who are bound to show up at the grand opening this week. Keep reading for an exclusive sneak peek inside the Chicago-oriented space.
The Chicago store is extra special as Glossier infused its signature style with Chicago’s city roots. The space draws inspiration from the city’s rich architectural history, replete with arched shapes, brick materials, industrial structures, and a gorgeous installation reminiscent of the Chicago Cultural Center’s iconic Tiffany dome.
This is the first permanent Glossier store in Chicago, so of course it’s filled with Chicago-centric colors and textures inspired by our chilly climate. A crisp blue color palette is complete with stone-white bricks and smooth cream arches. The products, which are displayed on neutral rectangular tables, are in direct contrast to the metal industrial-style wall displaying the brand’s signature wave pattern. The wavy wall is finished off in a new version of Tiffany Blue, with a super sleek high gloss finish.
Customers can also take selfies in the iconic “You Look Good.” mirror, shown in the store on a wavy paneled wall.
Each Glossier store has always had a specific city-central theme designed to fit each space. For example, Glossier Miami’s first space echoed the art-deco glamour of the past while the recent Soho flagship redesign employed the team responsible for the iconic MTA tilework known around NY.
The beauty brand always creates an exclusive city-specific item, stocking the Chicago store with a Glossier green bucket hat in shade ‘Park’ a calling card to the green spaces. It’s finished off with the brand’s beloved “You Look Good” mantra of course, which is embroidered backward across the front of the hat.
You won’t be able to find the deep green Bucket Hat anywhere else and the color, which is reminiscent of spring days, has an earthy tone and sun-shielding shape that the brand notes call for long springtime strolls throughout the city.
Similarly to the brand’s other retail spaces, Glossier Chicago is partnering with a local non-profit in the Chicago community, The Gray Matter Experience. The organization is all about “empowering young Black entrepreneurs in the city, providing coaching, capital, curriculum, connections, and community to level the playing field and create a future where all Black youth are empowered to become leaders and innovators.” The brand will donate $5 if each Bucket Hat to The Gray Matter Experience.
Glossier has stopped by Chicago before, opening a pop-up back in August 2014, at a West Loop location (114 N. Aberdeen St.) to great success, filling the airy loft with endlessly appealing minimalistic products.
They even constructed a new pop-up art installation at Millenium Park last weekend, showcasing a larger-than-life Glossier You perfume bottle and a Glossier You Solid perfume that stands at 13 feet tall!
“Come stop by Millennium Park (through tomorrow 👀) to see our 13-foot Glossier You. And…get ready Chicago, we’ll see *you* next week!” the brand wrote on Instagram.
It’s officially ‘go time’ for team Glossier which is great because I’m running low on Balm Dotcom in ‘Wild Fig’.
