The Garfield Park Conservatory is expanding its facilities, breaking ground Friday on a new 6,000 square foot indoor children’s garden.
Like the rest of the conservatory, the sprawling new garden will be free to visitors, according to the Chicago Park District.
The new wing will be outfitted with interactive, child-friendly features including a slide, dig pit, and nature art gallery.
The new space will feature robust accessibility options, including a wheelchair-accessible ramp and a designated area for individuals with sensory processing disorders.
“We are so excited for this immersive space to come to life,” said Chicago Park District General Superintendent and CEO Rosa Escareño in a statement.
“At Chicago Park District we are on a mission to invest in the creation of children-friendly places that provide exploration of nature in this community.”
The revamped children’s garden will be open to the public by fall 2025.
