After a five-year absence from Chicago’s iconic shopping district, Gap is preparing for a comeback on the Magnificent Mile.
According to CoStar News, the well-known San Francisco-based apparel chain is in advanced negotiations to secure a lease for approximately 8,325 square feet of retail space at 700 North Michigan Avenue.
Gap is plotting a symbolic comeback on the Magnificent Mile
This location may sound familiar, as it was previously occupied by T-Mobile, which has been vacant for some time. The space is situated at the base of a striking 49-story residential tower at 100 East Huron Street.
This potential opening is part of a broader trend of new leases along the one-mile stretch of North Michigan Avenue, which has been gradually recovering from the setbacks caused by the pandemic.

These developments suggest a renewed interest in this prime retail location, which has historically been a hub for shopping and tourism in Chicago.
As of now, it is unclear when Gap plans to officially open its new store or what specific factors motivated the company to reinvest in a location with such high visibility and brand recognition.
