The dog days of summer may soon be upon us—the National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for Chicago ahead of a midweek heatwave.
Heat warning in effect beginning Wednesday
The heat warning will go into effect for Cook County on Wednesday at 10 a.m., according to the NWS, and remain in place until 7 p.m. Thursday.
Temperatures are expected to soar to 97 degrees on both Wednesday and Thursday, with a slight chance of storms Thursday afternoon.
By the weekend, conditions will cool ever so slightly, with daily highs in the upper 80s. Sporadic showers and thunderstorms are possible Friday and Saturday.
