As NASCAR starts to take over Chicago, there’s another competition setting sails this summer.
On June 16- 17, national sailing teams are coming together to race across Lake Michigan, flying at speeds of 60+ mph.
With the first-ever Chicago NASCAR Street Race set to take place soon after, the SailGP team has invited NASCAR officials to participate in a crossover event this summer, which will include NASCAR officials joining the U.S. team on their catamaran, as they race along DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
Happening only a few feet away from Navy Pier, usually the premiere sailing teams across the world compete in SailGP’s international sailing competition but this year NASCAR team members are coming on board.
This is the 2nd time the event will take place in the Windy City. So, whether you grab a seat along the Navy Pier, or watch from an on-water cruise, the excitement will surely be palpable as you take in the heart-racing event.
The SailGP Race Village will show off stadium viewing with live commentary, big screens, and additional entertainment!
Before the main event, there’s always a pre-party. Last year, they held a pre-party on the Thursday before race weekend at the South Soldier Field parking lot. Featuring local headliners, the event, the pre-party will also be an opportunity to see the boats up close and in person.
For the actual event, the racing village will be open to ticketholders with racing times starting later on.
